Don't wait to get your tickets for Rock the Light IX. The popular festival will be held at Kansas City's Starlight Theatre on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29 and 30, 2008. Headlining this year's festival on The Salvation Army Main Stage are 2007 Dove Award and Grammy Award nominee Casting Crowns and 2007 Dove Award nominee Jeremy Camp. New this year is a talent search where music fans will choose which local bands perform on the satellite stages.

Ticket prices range from $16 to $80. To purchase tickets or for information visit www.rockthelight.com.
Look for the official Rock the Light Guide in the August issue of the Metro Voice.

KC couple makes difference at Wycliffe

The busy freeways of America seem a million miles away from the poorest areas of the earth. They might as well have been for Paul Foxworthy, a successful civil engineer who had a hand in building those freeways. That is, until God told him to take the path less traveled.

What would Jesus fly?

(EP News)--Billionaire Warren Buffet became one of the richest men in the world by knowing what adds value to a corporation, and what does not. And one of the things that does not, he has argued for years, is a corporate jet. They're a luxury in almost every case, a necessity for only a few, and he would often rail against them in the annual reports of his company, Berkshire Hatha-way, and elsewhere.

That's why, when Berkshire Hathaway finally bought a corporate jet in 1989, he somewhat ashamedly called it “The Indefensible.”

But try telling that to Fred Price, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis, Benny Hinn or Kenneth Copeland. They are among the more than 30 churches and Christian ministries who have luxury jets (see sidebar), according to an investigation into the use of luxury jets conducted by EP News.

Church loses tax battle

For the Rev. Herman Scales and developer John Ivey, the construction of the Seed of Faith church was the answer to their prayers. Scales’ journey of owning his own church facility came to an end this past May. Entangled in a fight with the county over responsibility for property taxes, they lost the battle and had to move.

A wolf in sheep's clothing

Senator Barack Obama has a new political ad directed at Missouri voters which stresses, what he calls, his strong family heartland values. He says he will never forget his heartland values if elected President. The ad is typical vintage Obama in that it is dishonest and phony. In the ad, Sen. Obama's political folksy rhetoric follows the same pattern of his TV interviews and public speeches. His vagueness is intentionally designed so that the listener can assume a feel-good attitude about his message and not even look beneath the surface to the candidate's real intentions.
